Out of all of the states in the U.S, Florida by far has the most diverse perception. That is thanks in part to the wildly opposing demographics and incomes. Now this isn't anything new. Most states have very nice areas and very bad ones too. However, with Florida it is a bit different.

Florida is one of those states which attracts everyone from all walks of life. If someone is homeless, they might try and get their life together in Florida. If a billionaire wants to set up shop to lessen their tax burden, Florida can easily accommodate them too. What I am getting at is that Florida is a place anyone can flock to in order to avoid the snow.

Here are the top 10 places to live in Florida, if you decide to retire or buy a secondary home...REMEMBER, TO LIVE, NOT VACATION.

10. Inlet Beach/ Rosemary Beach

Price: $

Feel: Cozy beach town. This area has a similar feel to the Jersey shore or the Outer Banks, the homes are neighborly and open. Beautiful beaches and quant towns with shops. When you're here you feel like you're immediately on vacation. Perfect for young adults and children. Locals are friendly and are just trying to enjoy the beaches too.

9. Ponte Vedra Beach

Price: $$

Feel: Safe and quiet community. Many residents are full-time. Incredible beaches and golf courses. Community club with all amenities. Ponte Vedra Beach has a family atmosphere. Very safe, upscale area but not uptight with a relaxed feel. Ideal for someone who wants a place to go during the cold winter but still needs access to the city.

8. Coral Gables

Price: $$$

Feel: Coral Gables is an incorporated city on the outskirts of Miami. Many of the residents are full-time and work in downtown Miami or surrounding communities. Coral Gables is famed for its yachting. Many upscale homes on or near the water have deep water docks to accommodate large boats and mid-sized yachts. This city is for those who want privacy and seclusion. Many of the homes are very private with heavy security. Gables is for those who seek seclusion and a place to store and take their boat out.

7. Sarasota Key's

Price: $$

Feel: The keys are barrier islands around Sarasota, FL. These are not to be confused with the Florida Keys. There are five Keys. The picture shown is St. Armands Key. This area is peaceful yet lively. Many of the residents are retirees or older business owners who want a quiet beachfront community. Shops and dinning are plentiful. This area is considered a more affordable version of Naples, FL.

6. Jupiter/ Jupiter Island

Price: $$/$$$$$

Feel: Jupiter and Jupiter Island are two completely different places. Jupiter Island is an exclusive island with extraordinary estates. These homes are secluded and very private, many being owned by professional athletes. Jupiter is more "affordable". There are a few exclusive gated communities with exceptional golf courses. This area is ideal for someone who wants southern Florida mixed with the Amazon rainforest. Lush vegetation provides ample security and privacy. Safe and non-touristy.

5. Boca Raton

Price: $$$

Feel: Boca has a different feel compared to other towns on this list. Boca is an upscale town in southern Palm Beach County. It is filled with over a dozen communities with million dollar homes. Boca is a very upscale and safe town. People stay within their communities and also venture out to Mizner Park (Shown left) for their shopping and dining. Boca has access to the Intercoastal waterway, so yacht owners can park their vessels in their backyards. Overall, very safe and upscale.

4. Miami Beach

Price: $$$

Feel: Miami Beach is exactly how you picture it, fun, young, exciting with plenty to do. Miami Beach is for those who want to be a little bit 'showy' and have fun with their toys. The party never stops and something is always happening. Unless you're willing to shell out the big bucks, most of the property are high-rise condos (which are still extremely expensive. Miami Beach is a boater's paradise. You are living in a city and you are aware of it.

3. Fisher's Island

Price: $$$$

Feel: Fisher's Island is the upscale neighbor to Miami and Miami Beach. This island community is incredibly exclusive and safe. With only two ways on and off the island, you certainly feel safe there. You have the option of taking your own boat there, or utilizing the ferry. This community has condo living only and each unit cost multiple millions of dollars. The sands on the beaches are imported from the Bahamas. The island is exclusive, friendly and safe. Ideal for families who want the best in life and want a resort feel.

2. Naples

Price: $$$$

Feel: Naples is the champion location on the west coast of Florida. Known mainly as an upscale retirement town, Naples has something for everyone. The shops and restaurants on 5th Avenue are some of the best around. Naples is upscale but certainly not uptight. There is plenty to do and see. The area is very family friendly and incredibly safe. Unlike the hustle and bustle of the east coast cities, Naples is one of the most relaxing places to be. Life seems to just slow down and you are able to relax. If you are looking for a family friendly upscale community with a relaxing vibe, Naples is a perfect fit.

1. Palm Beach

Price: $$$$$

Feel: Palm Beach is on a different planet when in comparison to other cities in the United States. There really is nothing like it. The only comparison would be to cities like Greenwich, CT or Beverly Hills, CA. Palm Beach is exclusive, expensive and expansive. The city transports you back to the gilded age. Beautiful Mediterranean mega mansions line the coast. The shopping and dining is other worldly. The beaches are pristine. Palm Beach is incredibly safe and private. Most homes are gated and many have private security. Palm Beach is home to the big boys. Billionaires from all over the world flock to this exclusive area. For the exception of price (which is hardly comparable), Palm Beach has a very different feel to Naples.
